Rug FAQ
What's the difference between a Persian Rug and an Oriental Rug?
Persian rugs are rugs that are strictly woven in Iran (Persia). Oriental rugs are categorized as rugs that are woven from the East Orient (India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, etc…)
What are the Standard sizes for Rugs?
Rugs usually come in 2x3, 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, and 10x14. These are more common sizes that offer a larger selection of rugs to choose from. Of course there are rugs that come in different non-standard sizes and shapes that we sometimes call “custom sized” rugs.
Does the higher Knots Per Square Inch (KPSI) mean the rug is a finer or higher quality rug?
Technically no. On very fine and intricate rugs, this assumption could be true. The higher the knot count, the finer the rugs are. However, on tribal and nomadic woven rugs, knots are naturally larger because of the technique used in those regions. This doesn’t necessarily mean rugs from this region are lesser quality, some tribal and nomadic pieces with lower knot counts are more expensive and have a higher value then say a “finer” rug with a higher knot count.
What are the different categories and types of Rugs?
Due to the many varieties and styles in handmade rugs, we have made 3 categories to make the process simpler; these categories are Traditional, Tribal, and Transitional rugs.
What are the major Rug industries in the world?
The major rug countries of the world are; Iran, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, and China.
Does my rug NEED a pad?
Pads are recommended for every rug because it helps protect the rug from weakening and widening it’s foundation and of course prevents it from sliding. We strongly suggest you provide a pad for every rug.
